Page cache life-time:  4 hours      Do not show caches older then  24 hours

What exactly is the meaning of these? Will it auto-generate cache every 4 hours? Or it will generate new cache when page is requested and cache file is over 4 hours?

And what is the 24 hours here? If the cache is older than 24 hours, whats then? If "Do not show caches", what will it show?

Another question is about

Distinct gadgets - mobiles, tablets and PC (enable if your shop gives different pages to different gadgets)

Is it about responsive design or completely different url for mobiles? As far as I know, default Opencart does not make separate pages for mobiles. Can you elaborate on this, please?

Thanks in advance,

Guntis

When customer opens the page, and there is cached one that is not older then 24 hours - Lightning will show cached one.

After that page caches, that are older then 4 hours, are updated on background.

So, in general - page caches are updated every 4 hours. But sometimes older (up to 24 hours) pages may be shown, when updates are not generated yet.

Distinct gadgets option is for themes, that serve different pages to different devices. For example, default OC2 theme gives the same pages to all devices (despite they look different).

thanks for fast response

Tell me - what triggers creation of page cache? I guess on initial installation the default set of pages cache is created. Then also i noticed that on Clear cache the defined set of pages is pre-generated. What triggers to re-generate pages every 4 hours? Opening that page?

About 24h - let me know if i understand correctly - if i request page where cache is older than 24h, new cache always will be created for that page? Also "next pages" are being generated at the same time if they are older than 24 h? Or if they are older than 4h?

I really can't get the difference between these 2 variables. They both seem to me "cache expiration time"

Thanks for "Distinct gadgets" question. That is clear.

When customer opens the page, this triggers cache (re)generation for this page and all pages that are linked from it.

If cache is older then 24 hours, new page is generated before display, otherwise cached version is shown (and new generated, if it is older then 4 hours).

Another 2 questions related to this topic.

1) when you choose Critical Pages in pages caching - does it mean that product pages will NEVER be cached? E.i. when category page is opened with links to products, the product page cache will not be pre-generated?

Pages caching: DisabledCritical PagesCritical + Product PagesAll Pages

2) what means this setting?

Every product is starred in all multistores (speeds up multistores)

1) Yep, only critical pages will be cached, products pages are not considered critical and they will never be cached.

2) OpenCart has the ability to set multistores belonging for individual products. If you do not use this ability, "Every product is starred in all multistores" will give extra speed up.
